ART COMMITTEE

The walls in Friendship Hall are decorated each month with the work of a different artist. Every medium is included from water colors to jewelry. Sales of these artworks benefit Unity and that month’s artist. If you would like to exhibit your work contact Marjorie Muro at: marjorie@npgcable.com.

CONCERT COMMITTEE

This committee schedules and presents concerts at Unity of Sedona once a month. Musicians included in this series are nationally recognized, award winning caliber performers. They create a joyful celebration for everyone involved. If you are interested in being a part of this committee contact the office at: office@unityofsedona.com

LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE

Our lovely landscape is now, for the most part, complete. Although we will still accept assistance for ongoing maintenance (watering, pruning, weeding, etc…), we are now done with the majority of the heavy work. Also, we still welcome donations for the last of our flowers, benches, and patio awning. And yes, we would still love to receive (or purchase) some more statuary. See Penny Genter (505-228-7087) for more information.

MOVIE COMMITTEE

At least once a month, mainly on the third Thursday of the month, a spiritually uplifting film is screened for the public at Unity of Sedona.  If you have a film to recommend or would be willing to operate the projector  at these events please contact Laura Schappert: 928-282-0242.

OUTREACH COMMITTEE

Verde Food Council Food for kids weekend backpack program

“Squeezed by rising living costs, a record number of Americans, 1 in 2, have fallen into poverty or are scraping by on earnings that classify them as low income.”
StarNet News, by Hope Yen, posted December 15, 2011

As shocking as the above news may be, the reality is that, here in the Verde Valley, an average of 78% of our families qualify for the Free /Reduced School Lunch Programs.  No matter how you do your math, that is more than 1 in 2!

The Weekend Backpacks Program provides a backpack full of food for the weekend to those children who qualify for free lunches at school during the week and do not have access to adequate healthy food at home.  “It takes a village to raise a child” and it takes a community to feed a community.  Lets pull together to insure that no child in our community goes hungry!  You can support a child in this program for $8/week or $36/month.  Contact the office for more information 928-282-7181.

Return to Honor

Return To Honor is a concept Don Kirchner started over twenty years ago to reduce criminal behavior and change attitudes on both sides of the walls.

He has started or inspired Re-entry groups in three states, and has received numerous commendations from law enforcement and correctional officials for his work with inmates as well as the public. His efforts locally have resulted in the formation of the Yavapai Re-entry Project, which is now assisting released former inmates returning to Yavapai County.

What is needed now:

- Donations to assist Return To Honor in continuing this work to create better understanding, and better laws that will reduce criminal behavior
- Volunteers to assist with letter writing to inmates (“pen pals”), and to civic and government officials
- Volunteers to be Community Sponsors (mentors) for released former inmates returning to the Verde Valley (I can speak briefly about this…and probably should).

See Don Kirchner, Penny Genter, or Janis in the office for more information 928-282-7181. Or visit the website at: http://www.ReturnToHonor.org
